Police: Alert New Jersey Dog Walker Foils Burglary Attempt

BRADLEY BEACH, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say an alert New Jersey man helped foil the attempted burglary of a neighbor's home.

Bradley Beach police say the man was walking his dog when he noticed two people acting suspiciously near the home. Knowing his neighbor was away, the man yelled at the pair, who then ran off.

The man then called police and chased after the duo, but couldn't locate them.

However, information he provided led police to a rooming house in the Monmouth County community. And officers who went there found 19-year-old Chelsea Cappa of Cranford and 32-year-old Kharaan Ferreira of Ocean Grove hiding in a vacant unit.

Both were charged with theft, criminal attempt and conspiracy to commit burglary. Cappa also faces drug charges.

It's not known if either suspect has retained a lawyer.
