Pennsylvania State Trooper Injured In Chester County Crash

KENNET SQUARE, Pa. (CBS) - A Pennsylvania state trooper was injured Thursday afternoon when a vehicle collided with his patrol car along the Route 1 bypass in Chester County.

The accident happened a little after 1:30 p.m. between Route 82 and Route 41 on the bypass. Police say Trooper Chad Burgwald of the Avondale Barracks was sitting in his patrol car monitoring traffic when a vehicle, driven by Heather DeLong, lost control on the road and slammed into the driver's side of Burgwald's car.

The 24-year-old trooper had to be extricated out of the car and was taken to Crozier Chester Medical Center where he is listed in serious condition. The investigation led authorities to believe that DeLong was under the influence when she was driving and she was taken into police custody.

The northbound and southbound lanes of the bypass will be closed for several hours due to the accident.
