St. Joe's Beats Morgan State, Martelli Now Hawks' Leader In Career Victories

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Carl Jones scored 16 points and Saint Joseph's had a school-record 17 blocks in an 81-50 rout of Morgan State on Wednesday night, making coach Phil Martelli the Hawks' all-time leader in career victories.

Martelli, in his 17th season, has a record of 310-212, surpassing the 309 wins posted by Bill Ferguson from 1928-53.

Saint Joseph's (10-3) has won five straight and seven of the last eight while the Bears (2-8) saw their two-game winning streak end.

Halil Kanacevic had seven blocks, 12 assists and eight rebounds — but no points — for the Hawks, whose previous record of 16 blocks was set Nov. 30 against Drexel.

Saint Joseph's came in ranked third nationally with 8.08 blocks per game behind Kentucky (9.3) and Connecticut (8.09).

Ronald Roberts added 15 points and Langston Galloway 14 for the Hawks.

Ian Chiles and Blake Bozeman led Morgan State with 10 points apiece.
