Police Investigate Fatal Route 202 Accident In Chester County

WEST WHITELAND, Pa. (CBS) - The West Whiteland Township Police Department is investigating a fatal car crash on Route 202 Friday morning.

The accident, involving two vehicles, happened at about 10:30 a.m. on Route 202 northbound, near East Boot Road in West Whiteland Township.

All lanes of Route 202 between East Boot Road and the Route 30 bypass were shut down for hours due to an investigation.

Police responding to the scene say the first vehicle, a Dodge Ram pick-up truck, was found resting on the passenger side. The driver, a 54-year-old Delaware man, had been ejected and was transported to Paoli Memorial Hospital where was later pronounced dead.

The second vehicle, a Mercury Mountaineer sports utility vehicle, had come to rest on its roof in the southbound lanes of Route 202. The driver of that vehicle, a 20-year-old Hatfield woman, was transported to Paoli Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The names of both drivers are being withheld at this time pending notification of family.

A little before 2:30 p.m., the southbound lanes reopened.
