SRC Could Vote Today To Make Meetings More Parent-Friendly

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia parents whose schedules don’t allow them to attend School Reform Commission meetings may get some welcome news today.

The School Reform Commission meets today at 2 p.m., but it’ll be the last afternoon meeting for a while. The panel today votes to amend its public meeting schedule, to move the meeting times to 5:30 and 6 in the evening.

SRC chair Pedro Ramos says it’s an effort to make the meetings more convenient. “The primary reason for changing the times of the SRC meetings is to enable more people to come after work.”

Strategy meetings are scheduled for Mondays and Tuesdays at 6:00, with the voting meetings on Thursdays at 5:30. The changes would take effect next month.

Meetings are at school headquarters at 440 N. Broad. Ramos says there are no plans right now to hold meetings on location at neighborhood schools.

Not all of us can get to 440 N. Broad Street in the evening, especially if we don’t live near there. Try holding the meetings at other locations, or on a Saturday. Plus, with the amount of homework kids get during the week – week nights are a challenge to go to a meeting on top of everything else us parents have to do. You want us to attend, make it easier for us to get to “all around.”
