A Healthy Breakfast

By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Breakfast is a very important meal. It’s certainly something that can get you a good start on the day, but the important thing is what type of breakfast should you eat? In other words, is a healthy breakfast one loaded with carbs, one loaded with sugar, one loaded with fat? What are we talking about?

The bottom line is you should basically have fruit and you should have juice and you should have some source of protein. The carbohydrates are not necessarily all that bad, but the thing you have to realize is that with carbohydrates and sugar comes the ultimate damage to the teeth, suggested problems with the heart years down the road and, in addition to that, the fatigue that can come shortly thereafter.

Again, the key is everything in moderation. That’s my feeling when it come to breakfast. You want to eat a good, balanced breakfast, but you want something in moderation.
