PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The library at South Philadelphia High School has a brand new laptop computer lab, thanks to KYW Newsradio and Comcast Corporation. The school was the grand prize winner of KYW’s “Laptop Daily Double” contest this fall.
Ten new Dell laptops are now a fixture at South Philadelphia High. Bob Smith, Comcast’s VP of community investment, says the new technology is essential to this generation because these are the students who will drive the digital economy.
“These kids can not only do their homework, they can come up here and dream big and use this technology to pave the way for their future,” he said at today’s presentation.
Dominique Dixon is a junior who is looking forward to using these laptops.
“In your junior year you’re coming around the time when there’s a lot of essays to write, a lot of SAT prep,” she tells KYW Newsradio. “It’s really beneficial to everyone here, but especially to seniors and juniors because we need them a lot.”
