9 Displaced, 1 Hurt After Bensalem Apartment Fire

BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) – Nine people were displaced by an apartment fire in Bensalem, Tuesday afternoon.

Just before 12:45 p.m. the Bensalem fire department was dispatched to the Salem Harbour Apartments, located in the 400 block of High Road for the report of an apartment fire.

Fire fighters arrived at the scene and reported heavy fire showing from a first floor sub level apartment.

During the course of extinguishing the fire an explosion occurred which caused the fire to spread and injured a member of the Bensalem Fire Rescue Department.

Additional fire companies from Bensalem and Bristol Township responded to assist with extinguishing of the fire

The fire was placed under control just after 1 p.m.

Fire Investigators from Bensalem Township Fire and Police Departments determined a contractor accidentally caused the fire.

There were six apartments affected by the fire, one was completely destroyed and the others suffered smoke, water and heat damage.

Nine people were displaced by the fire and were assisted by the Red Cross.

The injured fire fighter was treated at the scene for second-degree burns to his left-hand.
