The Gift Of A Garland From Your Garden

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Here's a gift from your garden to decorate a friend's house - inside now and outside next year - a garland of seed packets you make yourself.

Sort seeds you gathered from your garden into small envelopes. Put the seed name on each packet along with instructions for planting and care. Then, wrap each packet in pretty wrapping paper and clip them to a strip of satin ribbon, yarn or nice roping that's long enough to drape across a doorway or along a staircase.

You can add a holiday message to your garland by putting one letter on each packet. You can even choose seeds with the same initial as the letters on the garland such as: Basil, Echinacea, and Marjoram, Eggplant, Radishes, Rosemary and Yarrow - to spell out B-E M-E-R-R-Y.

If you don't have enough seeds from your own garden, try trading with other gardeners. Or just buy a few extra packets - by this time of year lots of seeds are in the bargain bins where you can get them for pennies - enough to make plenty of holiday gift garlands.
