PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Officials at Glen Foerd, the only surviving waterfront mansion in the Northeast section of Philadelphia, are hosting quite a holiday celebration and you are invited.
Nestled feet from the Delaware River along Grant Avenue, the majestic, 30,000-square-foot Glen Foerd mansion has a rich history. It was constructed in 1853 as a summer house.
Executive Director Meg Sharp Walton says the December 14th celebration reflects a”Gilded Age Christmas,” “We’ll have entertainment from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. inside the mansion. The majority of the performers will be teachers and students from The Settlement School.”
In the drawing room, there will be sequences from the Nutcracker ballet and in the impressive Art Gallery, there will be more music.
You can tour the mansion and for the kids, “a magic show, crafts, story teller, face painting and balloon twisting.”
Then at 7:00 p.m., Father Christmas will arrive to lead everyone outside for the tree lighting ceremony.
