Last Week For Tours Of Decorated Fairmount Park Mansions

By John Ostapkovich

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - You'd better hurry up if you're interested in a holiday tradition: this is the second and final week for tours of decked-out Fairmount Park mansions.

Transport-yourself tours of six mansions resume today and run through Sunday at $5 per person per building. Trolley tours to a varying roster of three mansions cost $25, and run tomorrow through Sunday.

Tour spokesman Bill Gehrman says one site does not fit all, "Each of the houses has its own unique character, both from the architectural and historical perspective but how it's decorated.  Garden clubs and the different non-profit organization and even some student groups decorate each of the houses, so they really range in different themes."

Gehrman says the scarcity of volunteers on-scene is the reason the tours aren't continued closer to the holiday.
