Delaware Police Rescue Man From Retention Pond

OGLETOWN, Del. (AP) — New Castle County police officers rescued a man suffering from hypothermia after he drove off a road in Ogletown and was trapped in a retention pond.

Police say the man drove off the road on his way home, but when he called a friend he said he didn't know where he was. While police searched for several hours, the man was able to call 911 to share possible routes and police found him disoriented and waist-deep in the cold water of the pond at state Route 273 and Red Mill Road.

Two officers were able to free the man from the mud and they wrapped him in several jackets for warmth until medics arrived.

The man was taken to Christiana Hospital, where he was treated for hypothermia and other injuries.
