Flyers: Pronger Out Four Weeks For Knee Surgery

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Flyers don't play again until they visit Anaheim on Friday night, but they got some bad news today.

GM Paul Holmgren announced that defenseman Chris Pronger will undergo surgery on his left knee tomorrow and is expected to be out for four weeks.

Holmgren says the surgery will clean out some loose particles in the knee "that have given Chris some problems over the last month or so."

Pronger had not played since November 19th, sitting out the last four games with what the team has called a virus.  Holmgren added they hoped that time he missed with the virus would help the knee but, "after an examination yesterday, it was decided that the surgery is the way to go at this time."

Pronger has one goal and 11 assists in 13 games this season.
