NORTH WALES, Pa. (CBS) – If you carry a smartphone that could mean big savings this holiday season if you do your shopping at one suburban Philadelphia mall.

Just in time for the holiday shopping season, the Montgomery Mall has installed a new mobile app called “Shopkick.”

“If (shoppers) go into certain stores and make purchases they receive these kickback points where they can collect and then redeem for prizes later on,” explained Ashley Pompei, mall spokesperson.

Shopkick was founded in the summer of 2009 and most of the participating stores are national retailers. Among the participants are Simon malls from across the country with Montgomery Mall being one of the latest to join in.

Pompei says some stores will offer daily specials and discounts just for customers who use the shopkick app. She adds that this will not just be a holiday gimmick at the mall but a way for shoppers to save in a touch economy.

“This is not going away after the holidays,” Pompei said. “It’s just great that we can kind of kick it off now before Black Friday and get shoppers introduced to this.”

Most of the participating stores are national retailers but they are hoping that all of the stores in the mall will eventually join in.
