Basketball: Drexel Whips Winthrop, 68-45, in Paradise Jam

ST. THOMAS, US Virgin Islands (AP) –– Frantz Massenat scored 23 points and Samme Givens added 12 points and seven rebounds to lead Drexel University past Winthrop University, 68-45, in the seventh-place game of the Paradise Jam.

Massenat was 6 of 8 from behind the arc for Drexel (2-2).  The Dragons, who had lost to Norfolk State and Virginia in its first two games of the tournament, shot 48 percent from the field, including 11 for 21 from three-point range.

Drexel opened the game strongly, with Massenat making a three-pointer, Givens scoring on a hook shot, and Damion Lee hitting a three to help the team to a 14-1 lead.

The Dragons led by as many as 17 in the first half and took a 31-22 lead into the break.

Andre Jones led Winthrop (0-5) with 18 points.
