The Great American Smoke Out

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - Today is the Great American Smoke Out and a Montgomery County hypnotist believes he has a way to get people to quit smoking for good.

The Smoke Out is sponsored by the American Cancer Society. It inspires millions of smokers to try to put down their cigarettes for a day hoping that will lead to them quitting altogether.

Certified clinical hypnotist Bryan Toder of the Plymouth Hyponsis Center is adamant that smoking is not an addiction and he used hypnosis to break what he calls the triggers that cause people to light up.

"For instance, they jump in their car they have a cigarette in their hand. They have a cup of coffee they have a cigarette in their hand, and what I do in my office is I put them in hypnosis which is really easy to do. It's 100-percent safe."

He calls smoking a compulsive behavior and by treating smoking as a compulsion rather than an addiction, he helps them break that habit. For people who are hesitant, Toder wants reassure them that they are never out of control under hypnosis.
