Businesses Get Face-to-Face For Social Media Conference in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania Convention Center is hosting, today and tomorrow, the second "Social Media Plus" business summit.

It's been 18 months since the first Social Media Plus conference here, and co-chair Bob Etheridge says there's been a lot of change since then.

"Google has come out with Google+ [Google Plus], which is big now, and they've just released their business pages.  Facebook is still growing tremendously.  LinkedIn had an IPO and is up to 130 or 135 million members now.  People are really starting to leverage social media and use it to see results," he tells KYW Newsradio.

The conference offers sessions on how social media can be used in executive, marketing, sales, and human resources contexts.

Etheridge says business people who are on the fence about riding this online wave should learn what they're missing because their competitors probably already have.

As to why the whole conference isn't online, Etheridge says there's a better "vibe" in person than in a webinar.
