Did DeSean Jackson Let His Team Down?

By Lesley Van Arsdall

Before the Eagles took the field Sunday afternoon they had already gotten off on the wrong foot.

DeSean Jackson had been benched after missing a Saturday team meeting and Monday, Jackson spoke for the first time since he missed the game, saying, "It's a tough situation."

Jackson claims he didn't hear his alarm and overslept, but he also seemed to be making a statement concerning his unresolved contract. On Monday, he really didn't clarify things, " (It) doesn't matter what happened, I missed the meeting and my punishment was my punishment and I'm not going to sit here and answer any other questions..." and that was the end of that.

My question is, did he let the team down?

LeSean Mccoy said "Yeah, you game plan for having one of the most explosive deep threats in the game, it was an absolute shock to hear he wasn't going to be playing. With the type of player he is, he plays a big role for this offense. Any player that says we didn't miss him is not being honest."

Defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins said "Teams consist of 53 guys... We didn't have 53 guys today. I'll leave that situation to coach Reid. I'm not aware of the details. I just know we were a guy short today."

As for the Eagles as a whole, it was a big game. The loss means the rest of the season is well, lost.

While Jackson is not entirely to blame for the loss, football is a team sport and to that end, his action seemed a little selfish.
