STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett is hailing thousands of Penn State students who held a candlelight vigil Friday night to show support for victims of child abuse.
Corbett told ABC-TV on Saturday that he was “very proud” of those involved in what he said was a student-run effort.
The school has been rocked by child sex-abuse charges against a longtime former assistant coach that led to the ouster of veteran football coach Joe Paterno and school president Graham Spanier.
Corbett said the students were “taking control” of the situation, which he said was “something that has to be done.”
He declined to talk directly about the case, since he initiated the investigation as attorney general, but said he would not be surprised to see other alleged victims come forward.
