Jay Lloyd's Getaway: The Jersey Shore 'Shoulder' Season

A weekend between fall and winter in Ocean City, NJ proved to be a fun-filled getaway for Jay Lloyd.

Nobody here wants to call this the "off-season."

(Woman #1:)   "We like to refer to it as the 'second season' here."

(Woman #2:)  "The 'shoulder' season."

(Woman #3:)  "Fall cleaning season."

But whatever it's called, a sunny day and a roiling ocean bring out surfers, strollers, and bargain hunters.

Holly Kisby, who manages Shriver's Salt Water Taffy shop at 9th Street and Boardwalk, finds the boardwalk is a magnet for early holiday shoppers.

"Fall-to-winter people are definitely looking for sales, they're looking for deals," she says.

And Lauren Gleason, at nearby Terry Ivory Jewelry, likes the perks of working this second season.

"We have a beautiful ocean.  I've got a great view every day!" she tells KYW Newsradio.

Open restaurants can be found along Asbury Avenue.  It's an ideal time to bicycle on the boards, and hotel rates take a very welcome dive.
