ABINGTON, Pa. (CBS) – As the fallout continues over the sexual abuse allegations against Penn State defense coordinator Jerry Sandusky (see related story), Athletic Director Tim Curley and Senior Vice President of Business and Finance Gary Schultz are stepping down from their positions. Curley is requesting a leave of absence, Schultz going back into retirement. Both men will be arraigned today (see related story).

Penn State students say they’re not only disgusted with the charges against Jerry Sandusky, they say they’re also disgusted with how the grand jury says it was handled.

“I think it’s definitely a black eye for the entire university,” one student says. “I wish it would have been dealt with in a more mature way from the very beginning.”

“Everybody thought he was the heir apparent and he was a great coach, but you never know what goes on in people’s private lives.”

“Shocking” is the most common word used. Students here think not just athletic director Tim Curley and senior VP of business and finance Gary Schultz should be held responsible, but administrators all the way up the chain should be held responsible if the charges are true.

Most students also believe head coach Joe Paterno did all he was supposed to do, though they say they wouldn’t be surprised if this were it for the long-time head coach.

Paterno is not facing charges, and this Penn Stater says he shouldn’t be implicated, “He’s going to get the fallout, but I don’t think he deserves it at all.”

Share your thoughts below: Do you think Joe Paterno should resign?

What is bothering me is that when the graduate assistant or intern saw Sandusky with the boy in what appeared to be an inappropriate situation, why didn’t he dial 911 and try to stop it. You do not turn your eye away from a situation like that. I agree Joe should go to because when the assistant when to him with what he saw he should have called the police in immediately. Would any of them appreciate someone doing that to their son?

Everyone should take the time to read the Grand Jury report. Then make an informed judgement. I say fire them all– Yes, Joe too.

  • Little Guy

Jo Pa should be fired immediately. He is the man in charge. If someone told me a child was sexually abused in my facility I would not only tell my superior but also the police and social services, You can’t tell me if this were one of Jo Pa’s grand children he would tell only his superior.

CBS Philly, please, please, PLEASE stop calling this story “Child Sex Scandal”. This is how it was referred to on your 5:00 and 6:00 broadcast in words and graphics. This is not a scandal about children having sex. This is about alleged child molestation. At the very least it should be called “Sex Abuse Scandal” or even more acurately, “Child Rape Scandal”. You have been doing an injustice to those who were allegedly abused. Please change it time for your 11:00 broadcast. Thank you.

Just move him to another school,,,,,oh wait,,,,he is not a priest

The witness should have called 911. He didn’t, he told Joe Pa. Joe Pa didn’t call 911 but should have. They both failed to report the crime and should be held responsible for that. Who witnesses a sexual assault on a child and rather than call police, they tell a “higher up” at their place of work? Who? And why? Because it is more important to protect a collegue than a child. Disgusting. They should all be locked up.

I agree with you, the sad thing is, if they did report it to the police directly, they probaby would have been fired for not following the chain of comand.

  • Thomas J Henninger

Yeah your right not rape just sex with a ten year old boy YOU MORON

  • Pat Calfina

(correction) Joe Pa’s should not even be named with regard to this scandle

  • Pat Calfina

Jo Pa’s mane should not even be named with regard to this scandle

    • carolyn

If Joe knew about it and didn’t report it to the right authorities he should be in it.
