Polony Leads Villanova Past Massachusetts 35-17

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — Chris Polony threw three touchdowns, and Villanova took advantage of Massachusetts miscues in a 35-17 win on Saturday.

The Wildcats (2-8, 1-6 Colonial Athletic Association) were outgained 370-355, but UMass (5-4) turned the ball over six times, three on fumbles and three on interceptions.

Down 3-0, Villanova turned three turnovers into touchdowns to go up 21-3.

Devon Bridges started the streak, forcing a fumble on the UMass 16. On the ensuing drive Polony hit Austin Medley for a 3-yard TD. James Pitt then intercepted a pass for the Wildcats at the UMass 48, and Polony threw a 30-yard pass to Jamal Abdur-Rahman for a score on the Wildcats' ensuing drive.

On UMass' next possession, Pitts came up with another interception, and Austin Medley turned it into a 2-yard TD run on the following possession.

Polony was 20 of 31 for 183 yards as Villanova ended a five-game skid.
