Conshohocken Man Wins Contest For Best-Tasting Philadelphia Hoagie

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An "ultimate Philly hoagie competition" was held this afternoon at a Center City shopping mall, in honor of National Sandwich Day.

In celebration of National Sandwich Day, Primo Hoagies hosted the "With Love Primo Hoagie Invitational."   Andy Wood, Primo's director of marketing, says that more than 100 hoagie lovers submitted their concoctions online, and five amateur finalists got the chance to battle it out to create the official "With Love" hoagie.

"The one restriction we gave was they could use anything in our store," Wood says, "so we gave them the entire ingredients list we have in the store and they got creative with it."

The winner was 28-year-old Michael Minetti of Conshohocken (photo).

"My hoagie is turkey, pepperoni, some capicola, mozzarella, pepperjack," he told KYW Newsradio.  "It's hot and it's a little bit cool.  Salt, pepper, oregano, light oil -- it's got everything."

Minetti's hoagie won in all three categories -- online voting, voting by passersby today at the Shops at Liberty Place, and the decision of a panel of judges.  It is now the official "With Love" hoagie and will be featured at all Primo locations for a year.
