Trick-Or-Treater Struck, Killed By Car In Atlantic County
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) – A young trick-or-treater died after being struck by a car while trying to cross the street on Halloween night in Atlantic County.
Investigators say 12-year-old Bartolome Menjivar was out trick-or-treating with his dad Monday night when the tragic accident happened.
Police say Bartolome crossed over English Creek Avenue at about 9 p.m. The victim's brother, Michael Chicas, believes Bartolome didn't pay close enough attention when crossing the street and was hit by the car.
Bartolome suffered head and leg injuries and was flown by helicopter to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he later died a short time later.
"Something as simple as crossing the street took him away from us," Chicas said.
The driver of the car did stop at the scene and so far, no charges have been filed.
The deadly accident remains under investigation.
