EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities in southern New Jersey say a trick-or-treater has died after being struck by a van while trying to cross the street.

Egg Harbor Township Police Lt. Robert Gray says 12-year-old Bartolome Menjivar sustained head and leg injuries when he was struck shortly before 9 p.m. Monday. The township resident was then flown by helicopter to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he later died a short time later.

Further details on the accident were not disclosed Tuesday.

Gray says the cause of the accident remains under investigation. The van driver has not been charged.
