Villanova Loses Big To Maine

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) -- Warren Smith threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score as Maine routed Villanova 41-25 on Saturday.

Maine (7-1, 5-0 Colonial Athletic Association) posted its highest point total of the season and has won six straight.

Smith passed for 255 yards as the Black Bears amassed 410 yards in total offense. A 33-yard touchdown pass to Maurice McDonald, an 80-yarder to Arthur Williams and a 29-yard run by Smith staked Maine to a 28-6 lead with 4:31 to play in the third quarter.

The two teams traded touchdowns the rest of the way.

Villanova kept up with Maine, statistically, but could not find the end zone when it counted. The Wildcats (1-8, 0-6) had 405 total yards and 19 first downs compared to 18 for Maine.

Villanova also won the possession battle by more than three minutes.

Chris Polony passed for 198 yards and three touchdowns for Villanova.
