Time Is Running Out To Get In On Millions Of Dollars In Grants For Art Projects In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – If you're the creative type, you may have a chance to get one of the three million dollars in grants that the Knight Foundation will give away in Philadelphia. But hurry, the deadline to apply is Monday.

This is year two of the three-year, nine million dollar Knight Arts Challenge. Last year, 36 people split the grants, including the Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra, which plans to give conducting lessons using professional musicians and a live audience. And the Fairmount Park Art Association for "Open Air," a roving art event of spotlights aimed at the sky than can be controlled by smart phones.

"These are really good. These are very smart ideas that improve the cultural community and bring culture to a broader range of Philadelphians," says Dennis Scholl, Knight's vice president of arts.

Scholl says the online grant application is tailored for people who don't normally seek grants. All you have to do is describe your project in 150 words or less. The website is knightarts.org.
