PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – If you are looking for a place to go where you can sing your heart out, there’s a bar for you in the Academy House that is just perfect.
Jolly’s Dueling Piano Bar in Center City is one-stop shopping if you are looking to be entertained OR be part of the entertainment.
Kerry Wheldon, general manager of Jolly’s, describes the vibe.
“The dueling show is actually two pianists. They rotate two different pianists every hour; they play off each other and they give commentary. They really get the crowd involved. It’s fun.”
And while it is not advertised, not to worry, there is karaoke.
“You get people that are like ‘please let me sing a song, let me sing a song’. And it’s really fun.”
One more thing Jolly’s is also known for being bachelorette central.
“Bachelorette parties are the craziest girls’ nights in Center City. We get tons of bachelorettes every weekend. They just get wild, dance on the pianos, have fun. It’s great, really funny,” says Wheldon.
And while Saturday’s may seem a little crazy, she says every night at Jolly’s is thoroughly entertaining thanks to the dueling piano players that switch out every hour. And what are they playing?
“During the week you get Frank Sinatra, Billy Joel, Elton John. Later on they play literally anything. It is all requests. We have all these little requests slips on the piano and you can request any song.”
They even do Lady Gaga and Britney Spears.
