PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A 26-year-old soldier from Ocean County was killed in Afghanistan this week, the Department of Defense announced Friday.

Sgt. John A. Lyons of Seaside Park was in Ghazni Province on Wednesday when he was killed by insurgents who attacked his unit, officials said.

Lyons, who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, was assigned to the 8th Engineer Battalion, 36th Brigade in Fort Hood, Texas.
