Snow Won't Scrub Schuylkill Rowing Regatta, Race Officials Say

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- How will this weekend's snow affect a rowing regatta scheduled for Saturday and Sunday on the Schuylkill River?

The "Head of the Schuylkill" regatta is scheduled to go on as planned this weekend, but director of vending Lynn Zeitlin says they are concerned about safety.

"We're really concerned about the weather," she tells KYW Newsradio.  "Our web site is being kept up to date, and we may need to reschedule or cancel some of the small boat races if the weather doesn't permit them to row."

How does snow affect the regatta?

"Snow itself doesn't bother the competitors or the officials," says Bart Isdaner, a board member for the Head of the Schuylkill.  "We're used to rowing in all kinds of inclement weather, and snow might be a little better than a downpour.  We just want to make sure that the docks and other areas aren't slippery and everyone is protected."

Officials say any changes in the rowing schedule will be updated online at www.hosr.org.
