PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – An elderly woman remains hospitalized after being rescued from a house fire in Philadelphia early Friday morning.
The fire started at about 4 a.m. in the 200 block of S. 55th Street in West Philadelphia.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, the majority of the first floor of the home was engulfed in flames.
Firefighters were able to quickly remove the 77-year-old victim from the burning home. She was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania to be treated for smoke inhalation. Officials say she is in stable condition.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire and place it under control in about 15 minutes.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
