PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – An energy saving company has created new thermal imaging technology to assess the heat efficiency in your home.

The new technology is called “HeatSeekers.” It’s a mobile thermal imaging device created by the Mark Group.

“HeatSeekers is our patented technology. With the adage that an image is worth 1,000 words, it simplifies home energy efficiency,” chief executive officer Jeff Bartos explained.

Bartos says the HeatSeekers van will be taking photos of area homes

“We’ll be driving around carefully. The vehicle doesn’t do more than 15 miles per hour when it’s working in neighborhoods in Philadelphia and the suburbs and South Jersey, taking thermal images only to show where homes are losing heat and where we can help homeowners.”

Why should this interest folks?

“Many people in the region live in older homes. What this technology shows is when you’re pumping your heat out, how much of it is losing right through the walls? How much of it is being lost through the attic?”

Does this also detect heat signatures inside the house? That will be able to tell how many people are in the home, in which part of the home and what they are ( to some extent) doing in the home. Sounds like more 4th amendment infringement to me in the name of “helping” people.
