PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - She is gone, but certainly not forgotten. Karin Phillips, the longtime community affairs reporter for KYW Newsradio who died last month, was honored posthumously this afternoon by the city Multicultural Affairs Congress.
This is the kind of story Karin would have covered: the Multicultural Affairs Congress’ 17th Annual Recognition Luncheon. Only this time, it was Phillips receiving the first-ever Legacy Award.
MAC executive director Tanya Hall says Phillip’s contributions included her consistent coverage of the inclusion of the story of slaves at the President’s House on Independence Mall.
“She covered the media events, she was there at the public opening, and really just helped to get the word out about what the project was about.”
KYW anchor Vince Hill accepted the award for his friend.
“When I first went on the air, she made sure all the T’s were crossed and the I’s were dotted so that I would not sound like an idiot on the air. And thank God she was there.”
