New Smartphone App Makes Searching Public Records Easy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Your smartphone could double as your personal private investigator.

Docket in Your Pocket is an app that opens up Pennsylvania's court and criminal records to your Android device or iPhone, from the least offenses.

"Noise ordinance violations, simple traffic tickets" ...to the worst "rapes, robberies, murders, and other serious crimes."

Creator and Iowa-based lawyer Matt Haindfield says, via Skype, that it takes the frustration out of searching public records websites on a smartphone. Pay $2.99, and get unlimited access to the database.

"We have found that our customers are comprised of singles who are in the dating scene, parents looking for background information about babysitters and nannies, law enforcement officers have surprisingly found the app to be useful, as have attorneys."

Pennsylvania is the first state available. Haindfield says versions of Docket in Your Pocket for private eye wannabes in other states are in the works.
