BENSALEM, Pa. (AP) — An elderly suburban Philadelphia man is dead after police say his motorized wheelchair was struck while he crossed a busy roadway.
Bensalem police identified the man as 82-year-old Raymond Smith, of Bristol.
Investigators say Smith was not in a crosswalk when he tried to cross Street Road near a middle school on Thursday afternoon. Two motorists stopped after seeing Smith but authorities say a man traveling in the outermost lane didn’t see him, leading to the collision.
Smith was pronounced dead at a Philadelphia hospital.
Police say speed and impairment were not factors in the crash.
