PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Pennsylvania education department releases its list of persistently dangerous schools, this week, and, once again, Philadelphia is the only district with schools on the list. But, the number of schools on the list has decreased from previous years.

Last year, Philadelphia had 19 schools fitting the criteria for persistently dangerous. This year, the number is down to 12. Ten schools came off the list but two new ones were added — Kensington Business High School and Northeast High School.

Overall, violent incidents were down by 14 percent, the result, says school safety chief Myron Patterson, of teamwork.

“Strong relationships within the school community involving administrators, office of school safety, parents, and a desire to address issues that were going on in the school.”

Patterson says he won’t be happy until there are no schools on the list.
