PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia’s newest mural is also its largest and most visible. It’s 85,000 feet and covers a parking garage at Philadelphia International Airport. The long-awaited “How Philly Moves” was dedicated last night.
The dedication included a dance party, appropriate for a mural that depicts 26 dancers, including Ali Bradley, “I’m also in the show Stomp, so I’ve been in New York, so today I requested off because I really wanted to be here.”
It took two years to make and four months to install. Lead artist Jacques-Jean Tiziou took 18,000 pictures of 174 dancers to create the six-story mural, but he says, “How Philly Moves isn’t about dance. It uses dance just to remind us that the biggest resource Philadelphia has is all around you. It’s Philadelphians and the culture they create.”
Tiziou had help from more than 1,000 people who worked on some part of the mural.
Mayor Nutter calls it the city’s new gateway, “We have literally transformed the streetscape and the landscape and the view and vision of what Philadelphia International Airport is all about.”
