New Jersey Governor Chris Christie Backs Mitt Romney For President

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - One week after he decided he wasn't running for president, New Jersey governor Chris Christie has decided who he wants to endorse among the Republicans who are running.

Christie endorsed former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney in a late afternoon news conference in New Hampshire.

Christie's press office in Trenton was referring all calls to Romney's staff.

Romney is, at this point, the Republican frontrunner, and some of those who had been pushing Christie to enter the race have in the last week shifted their support -- and money -- Romney's way.

This endorsement comes on the eve of another debate between the Republican hopefuls, a debate that will center on economic issues and is likely to help Romney even as his closest competitors are turning up the heat as the campaign in the Granite State gets serious.
