ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford’s order barring police patrols of casino garages has been declared null and void.
Atlantic County prosecutor Theodore Housel says the order was beyond the authority of the mayor.
The patrols began after a man was killed and a woman wounded in a carjacking and robbery at the Trump Taj Mahal parking garage on Sept. 18. It was the second deadly carjacking at the garage in 16 months.
The mayor said in his order that the city government’s responsibility is to its residents, “first and foremost.”

I am in agreement that the casino’s should provide GOOD protection for their customers. After all, that’s who are the ones that are paying for casino owners and employees paychecks.Just riding around at random is not good protection -surely the “great minds” can come up with something more effective.
Why should the Atlantic City police have to be taken off the streets – there’s already a shortage.
Besides, I would say that 95% or more of crimes are committed on the streets of the City.

It would be nice if Atlantic City could afford enough police to protect the residents and the tourists, but I’m sure there aren’t anough police officers, so the residents have to come first. There is a high rate of crime in Atlantic City, and the residents need protection. Addicted gamblers will still come to the casinos and park in the garages, whether there is police protection or not.
