Child, 9, Driving Car Critically Injured In Crash

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — According to Philadelphia police, a 9-year-old boy took his parents car for a joy ride on Sunday morning without their knowledge and ended up crashing the car on the Roosevelt Boulevard.

Police said it happened shortly after 9 a.m. The boy took the family’s 1999 Chevy Malibu and was driving north on the boulevard’s outer lanes, when he lost control. The vehicle struck a tree, flipped over twice, but the boy was not ejected.

Police said the boy suffered head and leg injuries and was rushed to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. He was listed in critical but stable condition and was expected to be fine in the long run.

There were no charges immediately filed. The investigation was continuing by officers in the Accident Investigation Unit.

The key words in the article are: “without their knowledge”. We don’t know what kind of household this child lives in, so I don’t think anyone can pass judgement on that. I just hope the little guy will recover and most of all, I hope he learned a lesson from this.

i hear that this child is from a house of full of troublesome children. he didn’t get very far with the car. i do hope that DHS will investigate the lack of supervision and care in this house and hopefully place the child where he can get some guidance before he does become a hardened felon. Before he has wasted his life. there is definetly a lack of parental skills at the least, they should be ashamed and embarrassed now.

What? I hope the parents give him a good discipline lesson before he becomes he gets totally out of control. It is better to teach and discipline him now than to suffer the shame and embarrassment of raising a felon. So sad.
