Man Hospitalized Following Lightning Strike At Gloucester County Golf Club
WOOLWICH Twp., N.J. (CBS) – Police in Gloucester County responded to the scene of a lightning strike at a golf course in Woolwich Township Tuesday afternoon.
A 48-year-old man golfing at the Beckett Golf Club had reportedly been struck by lightning and taken to Crozier Medical Center with burns to his chest. Emergency personnel called the strike 'minor.'
"We heard the sound of the thunder, the lightning hit and then the skies opened up," said Nicholas Bongiovani, a neighbor of the golf course. "All of a sudden, the lightning hits out of nowhere, no rain yet, just intense lightning that shook the ground."
There is no update on the condition of the victim, although he was alert when he arrived at the hospital.
His identity has not yet been released.
