TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) - The estranged husband of a Chester County woman has been arrested by Tredyffrin Township police and charged with stalking her electronically, through her computer.
Police say 39-year-old Jay Ciccarone of Wayne, Pa. is charged with interception of electronic communications, accessing stored communications, and unlawful use of a computer.
Tredyffrin Township detective sergeant John Bailey says the probe was initiated in October 2010, after Ciccarone’s wife alleged to police that her daily activities were somehow being monitored.
He says investigators conducted an extensive forensic examination of the woman’s computer and eventually discovered that a sophisticated monitoring program was intercepting data.
“The defendant accessed, without the victim’s knowledge, computer e-mails (and) any type of activity which was done on the computer. This really is no different than a stalking case,” says Bailey.
He adds that Ciccarone was arrested Monday, arraigned before a district magistrate, and released after posting $7,500 cash bail.
