Police: Housekeeper Stole $20K In Jewelry From Elderly Woman

EAST GOSHEN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) – A Delaware County housekeeper is being charged with jewelry theft.

Melissa Ann Lash was charged with stealing approximately $20,000 worth of jewelry from an 88- year-old resident of East Goshen Township.

The victim reported the jewelry theft to police, and on September 23rd, detectives with the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department installed a surveillance system in the victim’s home.

Lash was the only person who had access to the home. Within minutes of her shift, investigators say she began searching dresser drawers and taking jewelry. Lash was questioned by detectives after cleaning and exiting the home.

Detectives found nine pieces of jewelry in Lash’s possession.

During the investigation, detectives determined that Lash sold the stolen jewelry from the same victim five different times in the past month.

Lash was charged with six counts of theft by unlawful taking, six counts of receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked.

Lash was scheduled for a court appearance on Monday.

@ pattyk: That doesn’t give anybody the right to steal other peoples’ stuff. This lady was probably holding on to some things that were given to her over the years and was going to pass down to family members later on. I hate people who prey on senior citizens and children. They are the lowest of the low and. This person should do time and be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and then some.

Pattyk – really – what does it matter? No one has a right to steal from another. Your attitude is similar to that of a thief. They always justify stealing by saying they need it more than the person they stole from. The woman gave her a job and this is how she re-paid her? She’s a total loser – thief, drug addict and driving without a license.

The woman probably had the jewelry from when she was younger. My grandmother wears tons of jewelry and most of it has a sentimental value to her (things my grandfather gave her from years ago and things her mother passed onto her).

What the hell does an old woman like that need with all that jewelery? Where is she going to wear it?

    • Zzbar

She will wear the rings on her fingers, the neck-less around her neck, the toe rings on her toes, the bracelets around her wrist, the ankle bracelets around her ankles. PattyK, I bet you my last dollar that you stole from a senior citizen sometime in the past.

I can relate. I don’t like it when people prey on the elderly and children. Both are helpless and need to be protected.

I can’t say it enough. I hate people who steal.
