Mother Killed, Child Critically Injured In Philadelphia Car Crash

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police say a 44-year-old woman is dead and her 4-year-old son is hospitalized after an accident on Roosevelt Boulevard near Strahle.

It happened around 2:30 Monday afternoon. Police from the Accident Investigation Division say a car was traveling southbound on the Boulevard and swerved from it's lane to avoid a truck. The car then lost control, went up on the sidewalk and struck the woman and child.

The mother was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the little boy is in stable condition at Saint Christopher's Hospital for Children.

Police say the driver of the vehicle stopped and is cooperating with police. The name of the victim is not being released at the family's request.
