Officer Collides Into Vehicle While Responding To Call In Southwest Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - An officer and another driver were taken to an area hospital Sunday morning after their vehicles collided in southwest Philadelphia.

The accident happened in the 5800 block of Thomas Avenue at about 8:30 a.m. The officer was responding to a call and was headed westbound on Thomas Avenue when, according to authorities, an oncoming driver made a U-turn in front of the police car.

The officer struck the side door of the vehicle, then a pole. The other driver struck a wall, police said.

Both sustained injuries in the collision and were transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in stable condition.
