PATCO Offers New Way To Pay

CAMDEN (CBS) - As SEPTA moves toward an upgrade of its fare system, PATCO announces a new way to ride its trains.

Frequent PATCO riders can already use the Freedom stored value card. Starting next Monday, it has a rival; the PATCO Wave and Pay ANYWHERE Visa Prepaid Card. The name is pretty self-explanatory and all the background can be found at patcopilot.com.

Cheryl Spicer, PATCO Assistant General Manager, says the system got some upgrades free from Cubic, the new card's provider. So, what about commuters with the old card?

"They will continue to carry their Freedom card and be able to use their Freedom card but this offers an option, in particular for people, let's say, that may be un-banked. They have an option to get a wave and pay anywhere card and use it to pay their fares as well as for retail."

After six months, a second phase will allow use of other types of contact-less cards to pay PATCO fares.
