New Study: Philadelphia's City Line Might Be Good Spot For Casino

HARRISBURG (CBS) - A new study of the gaming market in Pennsylvania suggests that the area along Philadelphia's city line might be a better place than the Foxwoods site for another casino in the region.

As part of a study of the gaming market in Pennsylvania, commissioned by state Treasurer Rob McCord, a consultant studied other possible sites for another casino in the state.

Finishing well ahead of the Foxwoods site would be the West Philadelphia, City Line area. That is ranked in terms of net revenue for the state because McCord says there would certainly be other factors to be considered.

"You've got a lot of wealthy people in city line – main line. You also have a lot of potential for huge bad externalities there. You could have some bad outcomes. You've got a lot of students there."

It needs to be pointed out that no one is proposing a casino be located in that area. Among the other alternative sites for a Pennsylvania casino considered in the study, Southern York County and Reading came in first and second.
