PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. (CBS) - Phoenixville police have arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of a Guatemalan immigrant.
Authorities say 20-year-old Saleem Williams and 23-year-old Stephen Reidler confessed to police that they were on the prowl for money on September 14th when they spotted 22-year-old Selvin Lopez-Mauricio with a backpack.
“They followed him with the intent to simply rob him for that backpack,” says Phoenixville police chief William Mossman, “but he fought back when they were attempting to steal it from him and somebody pulled out a gun and shot him.”
Mossman says the two suspects are in custody and are being charged with homicide. And he says police are still on the lookout for a third suspect.
“There is a female, Monique Robinson, 18-year-old female, who was with them at the time,” says Mossman, who adds that the killing does not appear to be a hate crime.
