Now You Can 'App' Yourself

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – If you have a blog, want to show off your photos, or need to reach a new market with your business, a web startup is helping you 'app' yourself on smartphones.

Being in-pocket is no longer reserved for those with deep pockets.

"Anyone can build mobile apps using our platform."

For free, says Nick Petrella, senior web developer with Socialize. Their product is called AppMakr (at appmakr.com).

"You go to our website, enter in your content in the form of RSS feeds -- which can include news stories, pictures -- and then you can add your own branding and build your app for multiple platforms -- iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone."

And you can do it without having to enter a single line of code.

Even bigger fish like Newsweek and PBS have used AppMakr to do what the name says.

But, "the real key for us is we can essentially level the playing field, so that small businesses can compete with big brands who do have those larger budgets," says Petrella.
