Theatre Review: ''Aspects of Love,'' at The Walnut
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Walnut Street Theatre has raised its curtain on the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, "Aspects of Love."
"Aspects of Love" is an impressive, award-winning "chamber musical" which has played a number of engagements, here and abroad, but doesn't live up to the likes of "Evita," "Cats,"' "Jesus Christ Superstar," or most of the other Webber efforts.
It is, however, impressive in its intensity -- an unconventional musical about unconventional people, with an impressive score and remarkably animated sets.
The personal relationships may not be as involved as the score, much of which is variations and spin-offs of the big song, "Love Changes Everything."
The acting is impressive, especially that of knockout blonde Jennifer Hope Wills, who is no stranger to Broadway or to The Walnut.
There will be those who see "Aspects of Love" as overworked and sentimental. Still, the stagecraft is strong enough to please many audiences.
It's scheduled to run through October 23rd at the Walnut Street Theatre, 825 Walnut Street, in Philadelphia.
